A few weeks ago I won a Canon 5D Mark III camera (hello!!) and the first thing I needed to do was get a DSLR camera bag for it so that it would be protected. I looked all over the internet for something stylish yet compact. I found some amazing, gorgeous bags but of course, all of the ones that I liked were $175 – $350 and most looked to be about the size of a piece of carry-on luggage.
For my purposes of snapping photos of my kids around the house or at the park, that was just too much to lug around. Finally in my travels I came across something called a DSLR camera bag insert and then it dawned on me. I would make my own camera bag!
For the inside I picked up the ONA Roma insert for $59 because it was slightly smaller than the others I found and when it comes to bags, the smaller the better for me. You can get a camera bag insert on Amazon for about $30.
It has plenty of room inside to keep the lens on and the inside panel is attached with velcro so the inside can be easily customized if you would prefer to keep the lens off
This bag is about 11″ wide and would easily fit in many medium to large bags. The other inserts that I found were about 13″ wide so the possibilities are endless.
I had my insert picked out so now I had to find a bag. I knew that I wanted a hobo type bag since they’re so versatile and more me than anything else. I found a really cute bag on Amazon as well for $17.99. The bag is a really nice quality with a zipper top as well as a button and a nice zipper pocket inside and outside for keys, your cell phone, a wallet, etc.
Load up your camera into the insert, put it all into your bag and voila! A bag for your DSLR camera for a fraction of the price. One day I will also get a bag designated for the camera for trips, but for now, this is exactly what I wanted for just $78! With the other insert, which probably would fit into this bag as well, it would have been less than $50.
That’s it! Simple and cute, which was exactly what I was looking for.
