I was recently given the opportunity to review the Little Pim Fun With Languages foreign language learning DVD. This program is a fun way for your children ages 0-6 to learn a foreign language. Little Pim was created by Julia Pimsleur Levine, daughter of Paul Pimsleur who created the Pimsleur Method of language learning.
There is a great variety of languages to choose from:
Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, German, Japanese, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, and English.
Since I am of Irish and German ancestry I thought that the German DVD would be a fun choice. I received the first DVD in the program which teaches many German words with an eating and drinking theme.
Why are these DVDs for such young children?
The younger you are, the easier it is to learn a language. Studies show that languages are most easily learned by the age of 7.
K is 26 months and he is still unable to sit through an entire DVD (of any kind) but he seems to enjoy the Little Pim DVD. I will be very curious to see if he does pick up some German over time.
The Little Pim DVDs feature a very cute cartoon Panda and babies, children and families eating, drinking, or using common items that are identified in German (or whatever language you choose). They also go over some short phrases. It is done in a very simple, fun way to hold the attention of young children called The Entertainment Immersion Method®
I found the DVD to be entertaining, age appropriate, and very cute. I would recommend them to anyone who wishes for their child to begin learning another language.
