Moraki Cloth Diapers Review

I received a complimentary product in exchange for my honest review.

You may have seen that the Moraki cloth diaper was on my cloth diaper wish list a little while ago. Well, my wish has come true. Charlie, the mama behind Moraki Cloth Diapers, graciously agreed to let me review one and I can’t wait to tell you about it.

There was even a sweet, personalized note included with this gorgeous diaper. I absolutely love when brands are so personal and put such an emphasis on customer service. It gives me warm fuzzies and ensures that I will likely be a repeat customer.

Hello, beautiful . . .

Moraki Cloth Diapers

Moraki is committed to sustainability and waste reduction and that isn’t just lip service. The diaper came with nothing more than this (gorgeous) tag and note, so they are taking waste reduction seriously by not using excess packaging and/or plastic. I love this!

Aren’t they an adorable family?!

What exactly is a Moraki, anyway? I wondered what the name Moraki meant. I wondered if maybe it was a mixture of the first few letters of her children’s names, but Moraki is actually the English translation of the Greek word μωράκι, meaning baby. So there you have it!

When Charlie set out to create her cloth diapers she had a few requirements. They needed to contain messes, work for a variety of sizes, be cute, and truly work from birth to potty training. I think that she has accomplished her goal! Plus, they are all handmade in the USA! In San Diego County, CA, to be exact. All of their suppliers and partners are also in the United States.

About the diaper:

First of all, I think a lot of us are a sucker for a cute diaper in a great print. I chose the Hippie print to review. Gorgeous, isn’t it? It’s so bright and colorful. I love it. You have to see it from all sides to truly appreciate it in all of its tie dye glory.

Moraki Cloth Diaper

One of my favorite features of any cloth diaper is a front that stays flat and a soft inner lining. As you can see, this diaper has both of those. I also like that there is a tummy panel to prevent wicking. This is especially good for tummy sleepers.

Another cool feature about this diaper is the envelope style opening so that the inserts can agitate out in the wash*.

*Please note that this doesn’t work with my machine and it is of no fault of the diaper design. My new machine doesn’t have an agitator and none of my diapers that have designs that allow for the insert to agitate out in the wash do this anymore. So, if your machine also doesn’t have an agitator you may have to unstuff the diaper first.

This diaper also comes with three (fabulous) inserts that are made of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton. They are cut in a circle so that you get the added layers for absorbency but a faster drying time. The only thing that I don’t like about a lot of natural fiber inserts is their drying time so I LOVE this feature.

Moraki Cloth Diaper Inserts

Because the inserts are made of natural fibers, you can use the diaper either as a pocket or an AI2

The Moraki cloth diaper has four sets of rise snaps to fit a wider size range. Their website states that this diaper will fit babies from about 7 to over 40 pounds. My diaper tester is 28 months and about 30 pounds. He wears this diaper snapped on the third rise snap so there is plenty of more room for him to grow with this diaper.

Below is a size comparison of the diaper on each set of rise and waist snaps next to an average sized orange.

Moraki Cloth Diaper Sizing

My experience:

The Moraki diaper quite trim. In all of the “on the butt photos” that you will see below, the diaper is stuffed with the large and medium inserts. Even for their trimness, these inserts are thirsty. K has become quite a heavy wetter and most double stuffed diapers won’t last two hours on him without leaking. The Moraki did not leak at all or seem like it was close to doing so in a two-hour time period.

So how does the Moraki look on the butt? Adorable! It has a very nice fit on the bum.

Moraki Cloth Diaper

Nice, trim fit even when stuffed with two inserts. There is also a hip snap to keep the sides in place so you don’t get wing droop.

You may notice that the hip snap isn’t fastened in these photos. K isn’t always cooperative during diaper changes and by the time I got it snapped, we didn’t get any good photos.

Moraki Cloth Diaper

Snug leg and back elastic to hold in wetness and blowouts but doesn’t leave red marks on the skin.

Moraki Cloth Diaper

And the nice flat front that I like so much.

Moraki Cloth Diaper

Overall, I love this diaper. It has everything that I look for in a diaper with a performance to match. I honestly don’t think that there is anything I would change about it. Really.

  • Cute. No, gorgeous
  • Well made
  • Natural fibers
  • Highly absorbent
  • Customizable absorbency and sizing
  • Can be used as a pocket or AI2

Another fabulous thing about Moraki is that you can purchase a diaper package to save some money. You can also make a custom request if you wish.

Moraki diapers are also now available at some of your favorite online retailers like Diaper Junction and Kelly’s Closet
