The family that cooks together stays together. I’m not sure if that’s an official saying but it holds true in our house. My husband and I both cook equally and we are also teaching our children to cook by example. K-Dub is still a little young but Red is fourteen now and we hope that by the time he moves out on his own he has some delicious chicken recipes under his belt so that he doesn’t have to live on grilled cheese sandwiches. Not that there’s anything wrong with a good grilled cheese sandwich.
The other night I decided to make some chicken and broccoli fettuccine alfredo so I went out to Walmart to shop for some Tyson Grilled and Ready chicken. I love the option of using the Grilled and Ready chicken, especially when it comes to showing children how to cook. There isn’t any chopping or raw chicken involved which makes this an even easier meal for the kids to help with.
I chose the package marked with the #TysonMovieTicket promotion so that when I buy two specially marked packages of Tyson Grilled and Ready chicken I can get tickets to the new Blended movie starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. Being a blended family ourselves, I am really looking forward to seeing this movie which opens on May 23rd in a theater near you.
I used to be intimidated by fettuccine alfredo and I’m not sure why because it’s really not a hard dish to make and it is so delicious. Plus when you add broccoli it counters all of the cream and cheese. At least that’s what I tell myself.
For this recipe you will need a package of Tyson Grilled and Ready oven roasted diced chicken breast, one pound of frozen broccoli, shredded or freshly grated Parmesan cheese, tarragon, garlic powder, pepper, a stick of butter, a pint of half and half, and a package of fettucine.
Put a pot of water on to boil for the fettuccine and add the chicken to a warm pan and cook for about 5 minutes or until thawed the set it aside. At this time also steam your broccoli. I prefer to do it on the stove to retain more nutrients but you could use the microwave if you would prefer.
Once everything is cooking get started on your alfredo sauce by melting a stick of butter in a pan. Once the butter is melted add the half and half, stir, add a cup and a half of Parmesan cheese.
Cook on low heat while stirring frequently until the cheese has melted completely. Add a teaspoon of tarragon and a half teaspoon each of garlic powder and pepper. Drain your pasta.
Once your pasta is drained put it back in the pot and add the chicken, broccoli (drained), and alfredo sauce. Mix together with tongs and serve for a delicious meal.
See! Alfredo isn’t difficult to make at all, especially when you get a little help from Tyson. This will serve about eight people or in our case, we will have delicious leftovers to pick on for a few days.
- 1 package fettuccine
- 1 package Tyson Grilled and Ready diced chicken
- 1 pound frozen broccoli
- 1/2 lb (1 stick) butter
- 2 cups (pint) half & half
- 1 1/2 cups parmesan cheese, freshly grated
- 1 tsp tarragon
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper, freshly ground
- 1. Put a pot of water on to boil. Once the water boils add the fettuccine and cook per the package instructions. Put broccoli in a pan with about a half inch of water and steam it, and cook the Grilled & Ready chicken in a warm pan until thawed. You may want to add a little olive oil to the pan to avoid sticking.
- 2. Melt the stick of butter in a warm pan. Once melted add the half & half and stir until combined
- 3. Add Parmesan cheese and stir on low heat until thoroughly melted. Add tarragon, pepper, and garlic powder
- 4. Drain your pasta and put it back in the pot. Drain your broccoli and add to the pasta along with the chicken and alfredo sauce. Combine with tongs and serve.
