Growing up in New England, a humidifier isn’t something that has ever been on my radar, but when we moved to Colorado three years ago we began to experience the other extreme. Here it is quite arid and while we prefer being in a more dry climate, it does have its drawbacks. When I was given the opportunity to try the Venta Airwasher LW45 air purifier and humidifier, I couldn’t wait to try it.

Using the Airwasher really is very simple. The top lifts right off to expose the water holding area. The water is poured right into the bottom half of the unit to the fill line on the side. Really, so simple.
One of my favorite features is that the filter is plastic so it won’t get moldy like the paper filters. We stopped using our older humidifier for this very reason.
We also received a water treatment additive to add to the water and if you like, Venta sells aroma therapy oils that you can add to your Airwasher to make your room smell nice.
The LW45 unit is quite large. We had a hard time finding space for it where it was out of the way but not too close to the wall since it is supposed to be 18″ away from the wall. We were redoing the dining room at the time and making it into an office so I waited a few weeks until my desk was delivered before plugging it in and starting my review.
The first thing I noticed was how quiet the Airwasher is. I don’t know what I was expecting, but on the lowest setting it is virtually silent. Even on the highest setting it’s no louder than our heating and air conditioning vents.
As I mentioned, my office area is in our former dining room. Our house has a very open floorplan so in actuality, it is probably in a “room” that is greater than 800 square feet since it is open to the kitchen, living room, and even the stairs to upstairs along with high ceilings. Because of this, the added humidity isn’t immediately apparent but I can see that it helps some because our thermostat tells us the humidity inside and outside of our house.
I am especially excited to see if having a humidifier will extend the life of our Christmas trees. We prefer live trees and since moving to Colorado our trees dry out within about a week and after two weeks it starts dropping needles. We have even considered getting a fake tree which isn’t something we really want to do so I hope the Venta Airwasher allows us to continue to have real Christmas trees.
In addition to being a humidifier, the Venta Airwasher is also an air purifier which is great year round, and especially if you have allergies or pets. Indoor air quality is often poor, especially now that we as a society very rarely open our windows. We go from heat in the fall and winter to air conditioning in the spring and summer. There is very little time throughout the year that we open our windows so inside, our air is stale and not the best for breathing. The benefits of improving indoor air quality are too many to count, but improving your air quality will likely improve your quality of life.
