Dub started Pre-K in September and has been having so much fun. He goes in the morning and I pick him up around lunchtime so he is always hungry and ready for lunch when I pick him up which means that I have to have easy lunches on hand. Sometimes I like to get a little more creative than the usual kids’ lunch of a sandwich and fruit so this week I made him fruit kabobs and veggie and meat kabobs with a little help from Horizon®.
The kabobs couldn’t be easier, but they are so fun for a little kids’ lunch. For ours we made fruit kabobs with banana, mango, melon, and kiwi. Our fruit and meat kabobs were made with pepperoni, cucumber, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese balls. I cut the fruit and veggies into bite-sized pieces and stuck them on 5.5″ wooden skewers that I found at the grocery store. Simple.
Since the kabobs alone wouldn’t fill up my hungry guy after a busy day at Pre-K, I served them with a pickle, a granola bar, a Horizon® Super Squeeze Pouch, and a Horizon® Kids Milk Box.
Horizon® Super Squeeze Fruit Pouches come in mixed berry, strawberry, and orange. They contain real fruit, 5 grams of protein, and are an excellent source of calcium. Horizon® Single Serve Milk Boxes are a great alternative to juice boxes. They come in regular, chocolate, and vanilla so I can give Dub an excellent source of calcium and 8 grams of protein without any high fructose corn syrup. This is good news for me because he doesn’t like regular milk so we have to get creative with our calcium sources for him.
These are all of his favorite things so he was one happy guy and asked me to do this for him more often. This is easy enough that I can also pack it for him when he starts to bring a lunch with him to school. I love not having to wonder about the quality of food that he is eating at school and these lunch kabobs and Horizon® Super Squeeze Pouches and milk boxes would also be very easy to pack in a lunchbox.
You can find Horizon® Single Serve Milk Boxes at the end of the cereal aisle and Horizon® Super Squeeze Fruit Pouches in the canned fruit aisle at your local Walmart. We are also excited about Horizon® promoting of the new Peanuts movie. Have you seen the Peanuts movie trailer yet? It looks like so much fun. Dub is so excited to see it and I grew up watching The Peanuts specials on TV so I am also excited. We will definitely be at the movie theater when it comes out.
Have you tried Horizon® foods yet? What is your child’s favorite food to find in their lunchbox?
