When I married a former high school football player, I knew that football would be a part of my life until death do us part. I am totally fine with that as long as we can also enjoy the game with some good eats. We typically make a few appetizers to munch on while watching our favorite college teams duke it out on the field, which I prefer to having a big meal in the evening. Because of this, I especially look forward to game days.
Even though game day foods can occasionally come with a side of heartburn, it’s all worth it!
One of our favorite football foods to help us get ready for tailgreatness is, of course, chicken wings. But not just any chicken wings. We like to get creative around here and try new things, so in addition to my husband’s traditional (and delicious) Buffalo wings, I got experimental with three other kinds of wings for some variety. Cilantro lime, parmesan garlic, and Indian curry. So, how did they all turn out?
My husband’s Buffalo wings have been a mainstay in our house for years now, but the other wings were pretty new. We have made cilantro lime and parmesan garlic chicken before, but not chicken wings. They were a hit and it was fun to create complementary dipping sauces for them.
However, the Indian curry wings were a brand new experiment. While we make a few different curry dishes, we never tried to turn them into a chicken dish, much less a wing before. Let me tell you, our experiment was a complete success. They were our favorite wings of the day and we will be making them again, for sure!
Along with our wings, we also served four dipping sauces. Traditional bleu cheese dressing with the Buffalo wings and I made three different dipping sauces to complement our non-traditional wings perfectly. We paired the cilantro lime with a chipotle lime sauce, parmesan garlic with a lemon pepper sauce, and the Indian curry with a garam masala sauce with hints of cilantro and mint. All of them accompany the wings perfectly and were so easy to make.
The next time you plan on making some tailgate food for your college football Saturdays, give any of these wings a try. We will definitely be adding all of them to our game day rotation.
