Today, my baby turns one. At 3:06 in the morning to be exact. He moves forth in the world much as he entered it. Unforgettably. The fact that he was conceived on the first try should have been our clue that everything about this child was to be a little whirlwind.
I was due on November 16, 2010, but on November 3rd, about a half hour after we got home from a prenatal check up, my water broke. You always hear stories of someone’s water breaking but I thought that only really happened on TV! I went back to the doctor to confirm my suspicions and was sent home to wait for contractions to start or go to the hospital in the morning if they hadn’t started on their own. Contractions didn’t start on their own so I was very slowly induced at 6:30 am on November 4th and he was born almost 21 hours later; a successful VBAC. At 6 lbs 8oz, he surprised us all by being more than 2 pounds lighter than expected.
Since that day he has never ceased to amaze us with his strong personality, intelligence, determination, stubbornness, silliness, and affection. He is Tenacious K. He is the exact opposite of his brother in almost every way and has truly made this motherhood thing brand new again.
He commands attention and wraps people around his finger everywhere we go. There is almost no such thing as a quick trip to the store because I can’t go anywhere without someone (usually several someones) commenting and smiling at him. I have to say that I can’t blame them.
So happy first birthday to my little rock star. I love you and look forward to what you’ll continue to bring to our lives. I’m expecting a trip or two to the ER and some more grey hair, but mostly lots of smiles and love. ♥
