Is the carafe to your coffee maker starting to look a little gross? With the narrow opening of this particular coffee pot it is pretty difficult to get really clean (we have the same Cuisinart carafe as pictured). I’ve tried to clean ours with a bottle brush but it never got everything out and eventually we were left with some pretty disgusting looking sludge on the bottom. I was beginning to wonder if I would have to buy a new one to the tune of almost $50 . Before resorting to that, here’s what I did:
- Pour some Cascade powder dishwasher detergent in the bottom of the carafe, probably about 2 tbsp for a 10 cup carafe (we used Cascade Complete but any powdered dish detergent may work)
- Fill the carafe with boiling water and let it soak overnight
That’s it! The Cascade bubbled up into a fizz when the water was added and a bunch of gunk immediately floated to the top (eew). Much simpler and less expensive than buying a new carafe.
* I don’t know if this method would also work on a glass carafe, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t
