I was sent a complimentary Smart Snugs SimpleSnug All-in-Two diaper to review in exchange for my honest opinion. When I was asked to review a new Smart Snugs diaper I didn’t know what kind it was until I got it in the mail.
I was thrilled when I opened my package and found that it was an AI2 diaper! I am a big fan of All-in-Two (AI2) diapers these days. After over two years of cloth diapering I am tired of stuffing and unstuffing pocket diapers and have been reaching for my AI2 diapers much more often.
The SimpleSnug AI2 has a microfleece flap in the front and back of the diaper to hold the insert and prevent wicking. The insert is nice a fluffy and has what I’m going to call a gusset along the side to hold in liquid and solid messes.
The insert has a waterproof backing so there is less wetness on the cover and makes it easier to reuse. But what if the microfleece gets wet? Well, that’s a personal preference. I let it dry and if doesn’t smell like urine then I will reuse it but some choose not to.
The cover also has leg gussets to further hold in wetness and messes.
The insert fits in the cover by tucking it into the flaps; no snaps are necessary to keep it in place.
So how does the diaper fit? K-Dub is 2½ year old, 31 pound stick of dynamite. He wears his diapers with the rise snaps all undone and on second snap from the center usually. This is how I put the SimpleSnug on and I had a little sagging on the crotch area. There weren’t any gaps in the leg elastic but I was a little concerned about it.
I then snapped the rise down one and was surprised to find that it fit wonderfully! Based on the fit on my son I am comfortable in saying that it has a pretty generous fit.
For a diaper with only one wing snap there is very minimal fabric curling. I think that has to do with the extra hip snap and I’m very happy about that. I admit that it kind of bugs me when wings curl. It’s purely aesthetic but it’s just a personal preference.
The diaper is nice and trim and fits great on the bum. There is also a nice elastic along the back. The elastic itself is thin (but doesn’t dig in) and is sewn in with more fabric above than I am used to which gives the appearance of additional coverage.
The leg gussets are great and believe me when I tell you that they hold in messes. Let’s just say that K-Dub tested this diaper to its limit and it didn’t leak at all.
This is a great AI2 system! It’s easy to use, easy to clean, comes in six vibrant colors, holds a lot of wetness and other messes wonderfully, and is affordable at only $14.99. My only complaint is a very minor one: the insert takes longer than my other inserts to dry. This is such a minor complaint that I wouldn’t even really consider it. I hang all of my covers to dry and dry my inserts in the dryer. When the dryer is finished I just take the SimpleSnug insert out and hang it with my covers to finish drying.
Update 7/22/14: While it hasn’t affected function at all, the fabric on the inside of the soaker has bunched up a bit after repeated long term use.
