K-Dub is easy; he’s three. He is very into cars and all things that move, especially school buses. He is getting a lot of vehicles this year along with a few Little People, his other favorite thing. Great. Done!
Red is a little trickier. He’s fourteen so he’s not quite old enough for adult toys (not those kinds of toys, you dirty bird – laptops, tablets, beer making kits, those kinds of adult toys) but he is also too old for toy toys. He loves to read so most of his list consisted of books so that’s what he’s getting. Books, a couple of video games, a Minecraft something-or-other and I don’t remember what else. The thing he is going pee his pants over that he never even knew he wanted is this: Marvel Zombies. I was looking for stocking stuffers, crossword puzzle and word search books to be exact, and saw that Marvel and DC comics were buy two, get one free at Barnes and Noble and stumbled on them. He is going to love them!
The Husband, he gets harder and harder every year. He doesn’t need anything and when I ask him what he wants he says, “I don’t know”. (I do the same thing so I can’t complain). Socks and underwear, then? Perfect. Next…
Stocking stuffers were the death of me this year. I don’t do stockings with toiletries and stuff in them so I had to think about this a bit. No shame for those of you who do, it’s just not how I roll. I always got little toys, cassette tapes (yeah, I’m that old), earrings, things like that so I want my boys to have similar stocking, sans the earrings at this point in their lives. Clueless, I say. I did finally get them done, though.
I did start a new tradition on a whim yesterday. I very rarely give my kids pajamas for Christmas but this year they both need them. I’ve decided that from now on, instead of continuing the stuffed animal tradition that I did with Red which resulted in bags and bags of stuffed animals being donated to Goodwill when we moved, I am going to roll up a pair of PJs and have them sticking out of the top of their stockings.
So after a trip to Target and Kohl’s three days before Christmas (never again) I’m finally done. Whew! Next year I will be more organized…I hope!
How did you do this year? Were you ready and organized early or were/are you running around like a chicken without a head like me?
