As you probably know my oldest son, Red has ADHD. He was diagnosed eight years ago and in that time we have seen several doctors, have had several different medication refills, and countless med checks. This is a lot to keep track of under the best of circumstances but when you add an 1800 mile move to the mix, it’s easy for things to get lost in the shuffle.
When we moved from Connecticut to Colorado I made sure to get copies of all of his medical records from his current and previous pediatricians as well as all of his school records, tests, and 504 information. His file folder felt like a copy of War and Peace. I longed for a simple electronic file that I could hand to his new doctors.
While I don’t have that (yet) one thing that has made our transition to new doctors in a new state a bit easier is the Family Prescription Management section on Walgreens.com and within the Walgreens app where I can easily view prescription history, refill prescriptions, and more.
We’ve had a few frustrating experiences over the years so when we moved we made the decision to have him visit a psychiatrist for his medications and ADHD treatment instead of a pediatrician. Unlike his new pediatrician, his psychiatrist didn’t need his entire medical history. Being able to look up the medications and dosages he was on previously is extremely convenient when discussing your child’s medical history with a new provider.
While we can’t get refills on Red’s ADHD medications we can and have with other types of prescriptions. Using the Family Prescription Management within the Walgreens app to set up a prescription auto refill and refill reminders has been a life saver. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve taken the last pill out of a bottle and realized that I needed to get a refill right away. I have gotten prescriptions filled while grocery shopping or taking a ride to the mountains more than once.
Scheduling doctor appointments, going in every other month for med checks, and making sure that he is doing is what he’s supposed to be doing every day can be time-consuming but keeping track of and managing his prescriptions no longer has to be.
Download the Walgreens app for your Android, iPhone or Windows Phone or visit Walgreens.com to make your family prescription management a little easier and more organized.
