Yup. It finally happened. Stitches. Quite frankly, I thought that it would happen before now so I am actually pretty happy that it only took three years and five months for it to happen. You see, Dub is a pretty intense and rowdy kid. Always has been. We have had a lot of near-misses, but yesterday afternoon our luck ran out.
The Husband had the day off from work so we decided to do some grocery shopping. Unfortunately K is on a nap strike even though he still very much needs them. He gets cranky and very sensitive if he doesn’t have one. Add one missed nap to grocery shopping and you have a pretty grumpy three-year-old.
Anyhoo…we left the store and Dub had had enough. He didn’t want to get in the car and he resisted so I had to help him in. He flailed and hit his head on the corner of the door. Or so I thought. He was crying and when I got him in the seat I realized that he was bleeding right next to his eye! As luck would have it we were parked right in front of a walk-in clinic so we decided to run him in, expecting to be overreacting but with the cut being so close to his eye I wanted to be on the safe side.
Poor Dub was screaming! Not that I can blame him. Receptionists were leaving the room so they could continue their phone calls, people in the waiting room were staring, Dub was flailing in The Husband’s arms and carrying on about goldfish, chocolate milk, and naps. It was a scene for sure. Finally one of the receptionists saw that he was bleeding near his eye and got us into a room. He was seen almost immediately after that.
He needed two stitches but thankfully being so close to his eye, that’s all he needed. It was an ordeal getting the stitches done with still lots of screaming, understandably. Finally we got him all cleaned up and as soon as he was done the switched flipped. He was as sweet as can be and as we left he looked at the doctor and nurses and said, “Thank you, bye bye. All better now”.
And here he is this morning. Car door = 1, K-Dub = 0
