I have received the Nutrisystem program free of charge in exchange for writing about the program and my progress. All opinions expressed are my own.
I have been struggling for about a decade with weight gain which also increases my depressive episodes which leads to more weight gain and so on. When I am heavier I don’t want to leave the house, I don’t want to get dressed in clothes that are too tight or worse, buy clothes in a bigger size. It leads me to stay home in yoga pants most of the time and this leads to boredom and depression which then adds on more pounds. It’s a vicious cycle.
In general I eat well. We don’t eat processed foods, we have a fridge full of fresh fruits and vegetables, we cook most things from scratch. This should be a recipe for a healthy lifestyle but despite that I still gain weight. I do have issues with not eating enough and portion size when I do eat. I am also a nighttime snacker. Bad, bad!
When I had the opportunity to be an #NSNation Blogger and give Nutrisystem a try I was so excited to see if it would work.
About two weeks before I was set to start the program I had two big boxes of food delivered to my door. One box was for pantry items including the Fast Five kit and the other was for freezer items. I put them away and waited for my projected start date of April 7, 2014 to begin Fast Five.
The Fast Five program is supposed to kick-start your weight loss and you can lose up to five pounds in the first week. There are some factors that will affect this such as starting weight and adherence to the plan. I’m not going to lie, I was HUNGRY that first week. It wasn’t a fun week for me but I did lose weight.
At first I gained a pound (!!) and started to think that maybe the calories were too low and I was in starvation mode so I added an apple in the evening for “dessert”. Once I did this I ended up losing a total of 3 pounds in that first week, including the pound that I gained.
Let me say that I have a very stubborn metabolism. I can gain weight very easily but I have a hard time losing it. My body loves to hold on to its flab!
