Is this the first time that I’ve posted two weeks in a row? I think it is! Yay, me!
Right now I’m thinking about the complicated relationships of family. My uncle got married this past weekend and while I was originally going to try to fly back east for it, I just couldn’t. Not because of my uncle but I do have two other family members that make things…difficult for me. I have a post in my drafts about this and will get in more detail in that post at some point but for now, it’s complicated.
The rain. Right now it’s nice and peaceful but that wasn’t the case about an hour ago. In a matter of minutes the sky went black and then it opened up. It poured and started to hail. In New England I don’t think I ever saw hail. I know that we got it from time to time but it never seemed to be where I lived. Here, it hails quite frequently. It’s still kind of freaky to me but I’m slowly getting used to it. Really, this isn’t snow.
I just started Caught by Harlan Coben. After a few of my friends praising his books for being entertaining, fast-paced reads I decided to finally read one. I picked up a few from the thrift store so I have nothing to lose. I am three chapters in and I am pleased with the faster pace compared to reading a Stephen King novel. That man, while incredibly talented, takes for-EVER to get to the point.
Speaking of Stephen King, yesterday we went up to Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, CO. (What does this have to do with Mr. King? Estes Park is home to the Stanley Hotel, the hotel that was the inspiration for The Shining). We saw a herd of elk, amazing mountain views, beautiful lakes, the start of gorgeous fall colors peeking through, and smelled the freshest mountain air. Plus on the way back we stopped at a barbecue restaurant that was fantastic. What a great spur of the moment trip it turned out to be.
I also discovered the most amazing book store I’ve seen since Powell’s in Portland, Oregon. Tattered Cover in Denver blew me away and made me want to BUY ALL THE BOOKS! This is just the children’s section and it made me swoon.
I’m finally finishing the end tables that we bought when we moved into this house over a year ago. We bought some plain old RAST 3 drawer chests from IKEA with the intention of staining and painting them as well as replacing the drawer pulls. I finally finished one and have one more to go! Have I mentioned that procrastination is my middle name?
So, what have you been up to this week?
