I remember the first time I saw a windmill. We were driving across the Q Bridge in New Haven, Connecticut where it seemed to appear almost overnight. I was really excited to see that wind power was finally starting to become a reality and I became interested in finding out more. Back then it was still very new but when we moved out to Colorado I noticed that there were many more wind turbines in the foothills and was happy that alternative energy might finally be a realistic option for us.
Over the years I have become more and more interested in and excited about lowering my footprint, living greener, and living healthier. I’m not perfect and have areas that I would like to improve in but I take pride in the fact that we are greener than most and even more than most of our friends. Our resources are not infinite and as a society we need to become less dependent on oil and make alternative energy the norm. I want to know that there will be resources left for my grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond.
To help ensure that my children also understand the importance I make sure that I teach them to respect the environment through my own actions. They see me recycling, exploring alternative energy options, gardening, conserving energy in our home, and the other small things we do on a daily basis to do our part.
For me, learning more about wind energy is an exciting option. Windsource® is one of the nation’s leading voluntary green power programs and XCel Energy is the #1 wind energy provider. I love the idea of taking advantage of abundant natural resources like the wind and sun instead of nuclear power and fossil fuels.
What is Windsource® ?
