There are loads of parenting blogs out there to choose from. The term “mommy blog” may as well be a new addition to the Oxford Dictionary, but what about the dads? Dad blogs are popping up all over the place and many of them are smart, witty, well-written, and offer a not-as-often read perspective into being a dad. So in this never-ending sea of women writing mom blogs, let’s give these awesome dad blogs some love this Father’s Day.
A fun and funny look at parenting from a techy and geeky point of view. Hey, that sounds like my husband. They are geeky, nerdy, and/or tech-nostalgic fathers whose site is for all lovers of the old school. They share parenthood news stories, science, studies, opinions, lists and videos from around the internet.
If you love books and kids then this dad blog is for you. When Tom found out that he was going to be a dad, one of the first things he did was run to the bookstore to pick up a copy of The Phantom Tollbooth and it didn’t stop there. Now with a library of over 670 books he can help you build a fabulous library for your little one and give you tips on how to raise a little reader.
And I thought that I was a book hoarder.
Doyin (pronounced “doe-ween”) is the father of two daughters and doesn’t claim to be a parenting expert (who is?) but he wants to share his experiences doing the most important job that he will ever have. I first became aware of DDW when I saw this photo. Maybe you’ve seen it, too? I’m glad I saw the photo because it introduced me to his fun and funny blog.
Brent and his husband adopted a little boy and on his first birthday, Designer Daddy was born. Here you can find product reviews, graphic design projects, adoption, gay parenting, superheroes, and much more.
Mitch is, you guessed it, a gay dad living in New York City. He and his husband have been together for 23 years and they have one pre-teen son. He writes about his happy and fun family, fatherhood, and products for boys.
This is one of the most well-known dad blogs out there and for good reason. Charlie and Andy are two friends who write about the trials and tribulations of fatherhood with a sense of humor. I love their About Me page and it really says it all:
HowToBeADad.com (HTBAD) is a not so much a “how-to”, but a “how-not-to” entertainment website for parents… or anyone who’s ever had parents really. Follow Andy Herald (@andyherald) and Charlie Capen (@charliecapen), two sleep-deprived friends with nothing left to lose but their sanity as they learn to be dads and try to look smart doing so. They’re not experts, but that isn’t gonna stop them from pretending. You’ve been warned.
Another of the more popular and well-known dad blogs on the internet, Single Dad Laughing is written by Dan who is, you guessed it, a single dad to his son, Noah. He started SDL back in 2010 as an outlet to get through his divorce. He’s pretty great so go check him out.
If you like pop culture, toys, rock music, and Star Wars then this dad is for you. James is dad to two daughters and considers his readers to be friends, not fans. He is a lot of fun and has a pretty great Instagram page.
Happy Father’s Day to all the great dads out there. Keep on doing your thing!
