Organization doesn’t come naturally to me. I seem to live in a state of organized chaos, at least that’s what I tell myself. Really, it’s just chaos. I know where everything is, but it takes me twice as long as it should to find a receipt, a notebook, or a pen. Enough is enough. I have decided that it’s time for me to simplify and the easiest way to do that is to get organized.
Running a blog and trying to grow it even more means that I am only accountable to myself to stick to a schedule, keep thorough records, and have everything in one place come tax season. That can be scary for someone like me, but it needs to be done. This is the year that I’m getting my act together, and the biggest part of that is moving my office from the couch to a proper desk space. Yes, I really did work from the couch and let me tell you, the couch breeds inefficiency.
My needs are pretty simple so along with clearing off and using my desk, I picked up a small pocket file folder for all of my receipts instead of using twelve individual envelopes and a paper planner. While I keep track of a lot of things digitally, I find that the act of writing something down helps me remember things better. I also love having the whole month visible at a glance.
The last thing to organize are my desk drawers. Drawers are places for me to dump it and forget it, but not anymore!
I found these clear drawer organizers while shopping at Target and knew they would fit perfectly in my small, low drawers. They are perfectly functional as-is, but they are kind of ho-hum. On my way to the checkout I passed the craft aisle and got the idea to give the plain organizers some style with some sturdy craft paper and rubber cement.
You don’t have to be a crafting diva to pull this off. Placing the paper over a piece of thick cardboard as a cutting surface and using the organizer as a guide, I cut a straight line with a razor knife. Once my rectangle was cut out I trimmed it down to the size of the inside of the drawer. Covering the drawer organizer with rubber cement, I then carefully placed the paper inside the drawer and smoothed it out.
Let the rubber cement dry and voila! These plain clear drawer organizers instantly have more personality.
With my desk organizer, my largest desk drawer has room for my Macbook, my receipt file, sticky notes, pens, and other things I may need or want to find in a hurry. Now if someone is looking for a pen, I have one handy.
In my smaller drawer, I can neatly store the smaller things that I need to keep myself on task. Calculator, tape, camera memory cards, and small sticky tabs. Since I have chewed gum almost every day of my life since high school, I need to keep my gum handy as well. These new Extra® Gum packs now have 35 pieces which is perfect for putting a few pieces in my purse while leaving the larger pack in my drawer. It’s also perfect for when my teenager wants a piece.
While checking out at Target with my drawer organizers I found the new Extra® 35-stick pack at the front checkout. They had both of my favorite flavors in the new larger packs so I grabbed both Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice® since I go through a lot of gum. Good thing the Target Cartwheel app has a coupon.
The new Extra® 35-stick pack is so convenient to throw in my purse. The pack is made of durable recycled plastic (which I love) so my gum doesn’t get squished and the lid closes with a small snap so it doesn’t open and spill pieces of gum all over the bottom of my purse. The new package is also perfect for sharing with more pieces per pack.
