Amazing Vintage Halloween Costumes

witch vintage little flying witch-Like most kids, I loved dressing up for Halloween. In my memories the Halloween costumes from back then were better and more creative than the majority of the ones I’ve seen since I started taking my own kids out to Trick or Treat. It seems like the homemade, creative Halloween costume is rarity these days.  I have been looking at some vintage Halloween costumes recently and they are so elaborate, creative, and some are downright creepy. I wonder if they were intentionally creepy or it just seems that way because of the materials used to make them coupled with the vintage film used for the photos. I love vintage photos and Halloween so I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do.

Since these photos are so old and have been posted on several other websites, finding the original source has been impossible. If anyone knows the original source of any of these I will happily credit them.

Do you make your kids’ costumes or buy them? Were your costumes bought or homemade when you were a kid? What was your favorite Halloween costume when you were a kid?

Some of those costumes, like the pumpkin heads, are quite creepy. I love it! Halloween has lost a bit of its spooky charm in recent years.

Wow, some of those are pretty creepy…

My mom made my costumes as a child, but I am not as crafty…my kids have store bought costumes 🙁

My kids always had store bought costumes too. This year K is going to be Clark Kent so he doesn’t have a bought costume or a homemade one this year. I wish I was crafty but that gene skipped me. I was going to make him a school bus costume but chickened out 😉
