Diaper Stash Review: bumGenius 4.0

As you probably know, bumGenius is one of the heavyweights in the cloth diaper world. The 4.0 is a one size pocket diaper with stretchy tabs. The stretchy tabs are great for babies (like mine) who are kind of in between snap settings.

The 4.0 comes with a microfiber insert and a microfiber doubler. The insert has a snap so that you can fold it down to the size you need and there is a generous pocket opening for easy stuffing.

The bumGenius 4.0 has a generous fit. K is a little over 21 pounds and he is on the medium setting and just moved to the second waist snap setting. There isn’t any added bulk in the crotch area which makes it easy to fit under most pants and jeans.

The fit on the legs is snug but not tight, so no nasties can sneak out of the diaper while allowing free movement and no red marks on the legs.
And the fit in the butt is trim without any fabric bunching.
Overall, this is a great diaper. I only have one of them in my stash, but that isn’t because I don’t like them. Honestly, it’s only because they don’t have very many colors/prints that I like. Their colors are pretty muted and blah and their brights are a pretty generic blue, green and pink. They did just come out with two new, bolder colors and two new prints will be out in December that look promising.
What I like:
  • Stretchy tabs
  • Trim fit
  • No leaks
  • Easy to stuff
  • Adjustable insert

What I don’t like:
  • Color/print choices
  • The feel of the microfiber insert is “prickly” (I don’t know how else to describe it)
This diaper retails for $17.95 USD so it’s reasonably priced for a very good diaper.

>Thanks for the review. Both my grandsons use cloth diapers and we have just started to get the all in ones. I am sure my daughters would be thrilled to have some of these diapers. I will have to check them out and get a few to try. New follower from the Monday Mingle.

>I just got a half-dozen of these, and I looove them. They're much less bulky than the prefolds/covers that make up the rest of our stash. Agree with you about the colors, though – would it kill them to come out with a couple fun prints?
