How to Enter Blog Giveaways and WIN!

How to enter blog giveaways and WIN!

I haven’t entered a blog giveaway in a while now because I just don’t have the time but I used to enter giveaways like it was my job. I won a lot, too. A stash worth of cloth diapers, a Kindle Fire, gift cards, a baby carrier, a $4300 camera (yes, really), and some other things here and there. I sometimes got more than one winner email in the same day and often at least one a week. For a while there I was on fire! But how did I win so often? Well, I’ll tell you.

First, you have to know where to find the giveaways if you’re going to enter them, right?

How to find blog giveaways

Giveaway listings

There are lots of websites out there devoted to listing blog giveaways. I list mine there and have found great ones to enter as well. Some of my favorites are:

The second most common way I used to find giveaways was to search hashtags on Twitter like #win and #giveaway or for the specific item that I wanted to win like #clothdiapers or #carseat along with win and giveaway to get the best results.

Some popular linkies I’ve used and list my own giveaways are the ones at Change-Diapers, Measuring Flower, and Padded Tush Stats. For even more giveaway linkies check out this great list.

RSS feed or email subscriptions

If you enjoy the giveaways on a particular blog then sign up for their RSS feed on Feedburner, Feedly, or Bloglovin or subscribe to their email list. That way when they post a giveaway you’ll know about it.

Don’t rely on their Facebook page because Facebook’s reach is awful these days. Unless you check their page directly, you’ll probably miss it unless you set up an interest list of your favorite blogs.

How to win

Okay, so now that you know where to find giveaways to enter, how do you win?

Daily entries

The key to winning is simple: do as many entries as you can. Especially the daily entries. Most giveaways have a daily tweet option which is a quick, easy entry so there’s no reason not to do it. If they have a daily comment or any other daily entry, do them. Don’t just do one entry and abandon it. Sure, you may get lucky and win but the odds of winning are far greater with the more entries you put into it.

Follow directions

I can’t tell you how many entrants I’ve disqualified for not following the directions. For example, if the giveaway host asks you to comment by answering a specific question, answer it as asked.

Be honest

I’ve also disqualified a lot of entrants for claiming entries that they didn’t do. If you claim an entry make sure that you’ve actually done it. Trust me, the giveaway host will check and disqualify you if the tweet, comment, whatever isn’t there.

What to do when you do win

I can’t stress this enough. When you win a giveaway PLEASE be gracious to the host. Giveaways take time from securing a prize, to setting up the form, to writing the post, to promoting it for two weeks. Say thank you, be appreciative, GET EXCITED! Giveaway hosts get really turned off if you just give them a flat “thanks” without any punctuation or worse, just send them your address. Common courtesy goes a long way.

And with that, good luck and happy sweeping!

What awesome giveaway prize have YOU won recently?

Hi!!! Loved your post! I have been entering giveaways for a while too, I’ve won beauty products, gift cards, an Xbox One. Lately I have been entering ALOT of giveaways on Instagram. Especially the #loopgiveaways … Just search that on IG and it shows you lots, they giveaway a lot of $1,000 gift cards to Target, Amazon, or PayPal cash, a lot of Mac Computers, IPads…beauty stuff. They are easy you just follow the loop. I haven’t won anything yet but the most I’ve seen enter was 1,800… Sometimes they are way lower. Gotta go looping now!!!!

Thank you for the tips on IG giveaways! I have seen them, but I haven’t entered one so didn’t know how they worked. I may have to go check them out and update this post.

I’ve won one thing a very long time ago and when I contacted the person to claim the prize they never got back to me about it. Been entering giveaways for a couple years and that is the only one I’ve ever won.

Oh, I hate that. I’ve had it happen to me a couple of times, too.

Oh, I wanted to mention a strategy I’ve recently started using: I try to check the tweets of those virtual book tour hosts, such as Goddess Fish, Ink Slinger, Indie Sage, etc. Everyday I find great low entry gift card giveaways! I also check the tweets of many book blogs, such as: Chosen By You Book Club, Star Angel’s Reviews, Book Lover Sue, A Leisure Moment, I Am A Reader, etc. These are also usually low entry giveaways that can be entered in just minutes! Good luck everyone, time for me to go enter another giveaway!

Hi! I started entering giveaways about six months ago and I can’t even remember how I came across my first one. It has become like a full-time job at this point, I try and enter hundreds per week! I have won about 40 times and I won some pretty cool things such as a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1, $400 in gift cards, ebooks, paperback books, candles, etc. I get hundreds of emails everyday because I usually subscribe to the blogs’ daily posts. I’ve discovered some awesome blogs! And when I win I thank the blog host profusely! It’s like Christmas sometimes, when I receive 5 packages in a week!

I can’t tell you how pleased I am to know that you disqualify people who don’t comment in the specified manner. I take a lot of time to enter giveaways and make sure I do everything right. When I see random comments it upsets me. Now I’ll just pass over them and know they are excluded. πŸ™‚

Regan April 9, 2015 - 9:47 am

On my forms where there is a comment option I specifically say “comments such as nice post or thanks for the giveaway” will be disqualified. Here’s the thing, if I have entrants comment on a review A) the review is on my site forever and I don’t want “thanks for the giveaway” under it forever. It’s tacky. and B) the sponsor is offering my readers a product for free (mine is not free since I pay taxes on review items) and I like the sponsor to feel appreciated. If you don’t appreciate them then where is their incentive to offer prizes in the future? So maybe not all blogs disqualify those entries, but I do πŸ™‚

Great tips! I entered into the giveaway world when I discovered cloth diaper giveaways. πŸ™‚ But there’s one thing that I’ve always wondered about. Do bloggers mind it when you enter a giveaway and don’t really interact with them in any other way? I have a list of blogs I really enjoy and read on a regular basis (yours included), but I always feel a little guilty entering a giveaway on a blog that I don’t truly follow. Does that bother you at all, or are you just happy to spread the word about your blog and the product you’re featuring?

Regan April 8, 2015 - 10:26 pm

Interesting question. I can only speak for myself of course because we all have different opinions on this. If we truly minded that they don’t interact in any other way then we wouldn’t host giveaways.

For me, I host a giveaway to bring people to my page and of course I hope that they stay for more than the giveaways but not all of them will. I know that some do though because I see the same names interacting in comments and in other ways (yours included). If a few hang around then I’ve succeeded. I credit the giveaways for drawing quite a few people in and I’m good with that. You’ve got to get people to your page somehow since the Internet is a big place πŸ™‚

I also like interacting with and building relationships with the brands I like and want to promote.

Keara B. April 9, 2015 - 11:34 am

Good to know. I’m pretty sure your readers all see how much effort you and other bloggers put into your blogs, so hopefully you get more than just a few that stick around. πŸ˜‰

I have entered a lot of giveaways and have won a lot of items, the best was a 500.00 gift card, shoes and other gift cards. doing the dailies are a big help in winning. I usually enter them through an email I’ve received. I subscribe to all of them. but doing the entries are well worth it and if you don’t win keep trying. Its exhilarating when you receive an email that you won. good luck everyone

Regan April 8, 2015 - 8:19 pm

I used to get the biggest rush out of winning! Writing this post made me want to go enter some giveaways πŸ™‚

Melinda Stephens April 8, 2015 - 7:20 pm

I have entered on and off for about tree years. Something that I have noticed is that there are a lot more people entering lately, so it is harder to win. My friends have noticed the same thing.

Regan April 8, 2015 - 7:41 pm

Yes. Giveaways have gotten very popular over the years. I’ve noticed that with my own over the years, too.

I’ve never done that! Good tip!

Jessica O April 8, 2015 - 10:09 am

Great tips! I haven’t had as much time to enter giveaways lately but I always do the daily entries and don’t win that often lol some people just have better luck. I did just win an awesome Jungle Jumparoo which was probably the coolest thing I have won!

Regan April 8, 2015 - 10:17 am

Yes, most of it really is luck. The number of giveaways I won was high but not in comparison to the number of ones I’ve entered

Beth Ann April 8, 2015 - 9:06 am

These are great tips!

I also recommend joining mailing lists and reading them!! You find a lot of giveaways there. πŸ™‚
