After One Month of Using Scratch Wireless {Update} #MC

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Scratch Wireless. I received a product sample to facilitate my review.

About a month ago we started using Scratch Wireless for my fourteen year old son. To recap, this is a free cell phone service that operates on WiFi for both data and voice. If you need to purchase a data or voice plan for while you are away from WiFi you can do so at a very reasonable price – $1.99 for a daily pass and $14.99 for a monthly pass. This has been an excellent alternative to the dilemma of paying an arm and a leg for cell phone service for our teenager.

So now you may want to know how has our experience been going.

Red has been loving his phone! We got him his first cell phone for his thirteenth birthday but the phone was lower end and the service wasn’t ideal. With the Motorola Photon Q he is in smartphone heaven! The only complaint that I have with the phone is that he barely talks to us anymore.

We had an amazing 72 degree day this past weekend so we went to the park. He just played games on his phone but at least he was out in the sun and fresh air, right? We have had to put more time restrictions on his phone time lately because he finally has a phone that can do all of the things that he wants it to do.

For the past month we have been trying out the data and voice pass that you can purchase when you are away from WiFi and it has been working great. He hasn’t had a dropped call and has had data access whenever he has needed it. Granted, most of the time he is still near a WiFi connection but it’s nice to know that I don’t have to worry about him being in a dead zone if he is away from a connection.

After the past month I am seriously considering getting myself a Scratch Wireless phone. I have another no contract provider right now but even if I purchase the data and voice pass every month the Scratch Wireless plan is still less than what we’re paying now. Plus I am having some problems with dropped calls lately, something that Red isn’t having.

Yes, most of the time when something sounds too good to be true, it is. But after the past month I think that Scratch Wireless may just be an exception to that rule!
