Preschooler Snack: Ham & Cheese Skewers. Sometimes my kids want something a little more fun than a sandwich. I am not interested in making snacks that take three times as long to make as they take to eat so in our house toothpicks are what makes a snack fun.

Easy Kids’ Snack Idea: Ham & Cheese Skewers

I’m not going to claim that I’ve reinvented the wheel here. I’m not a Pinterest mom so Olaf pancakes and fruit plates shaped like caterpillars aren’t in my wheelhouse but my kids deserve a little food entertainment, too. Ham and cheese on skewers (er, toothpicks) though? I can handle that.

This afternoon I asked Dub what he wanted for lunch. This is sometimes a question that will bring some rather interesting answers. Today his answer was, “A tomato. Oh, and cheese . . . and strawberries.” Alrighty then. An interesting combination but healthy so alright. I grabbed a tomato and cut it into cubes then went to the fridge for the strawberries and cheese when in the cheese drawer I also saw some ham. That’s when the lightbulb came on. This kid is going to love me today.

I don’t think that I need to give a full photo tutorial because really, just stick some stuff on a toothpick. Slice a piece of ham into strips, fold it into thirds and stick it on a toothpick and put a cube of cheese and a tomato at either end.

Toothpicks make everything fun and he thought that it was so much better than some tomatoes and a few slices of cheese on a plate, even though that was what he originally wanted.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a snack more fun. Even as an adult I like food that is served on toothpicks.

What are your kids’ favorite snacks?
