Clearly Filtered water pitcher review - say goodbye to bottled water

Stop Bottled Water Waste with the Clearly Filtered Water Pitcher

The word has gotten out that we need to drink more water and less sugary and caffeinated beverages and now people are drinking more bottled water that ever. This is great news, right? Well, yes and no. Drinking more water is always a great idea but plastic water bottles create so much waste not only by wasting money but also by filling landfills with plastic. The plastic used to make the bottles is also questionable and could negatively affect your long-term health.

Because of this I have switched from bottled water to filtered water in a reusable BPA and phthalate free water bottle. One way we filter our water is with a Clearly Filtered water pitcher

Why ditch the water bottles?

  • Making bottles to meet America’s demand for bottled water uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year1. And that’s not even including the oil used for transportation.
  • The energy we waste using bottled water would be enough to power 190,000 homes2.
  • Last year, the average American used 167 disposable water bottles, but only recycled 38.3
  • Americans used about 50 billion plastic water bottles last year. However, the U.S.’s recycling rate for plastic is only 23 percent, which means 38 billion water bottles – more than $1 billion worth of plastic – are wasted each year3.
  • The recommended eight glasses of water a day, at U.S. tap rates equals about $.49 per year; that same amount of bottled water is about $1,400.
  • Antimony, which is found in PET plastic bottles, in small doses can cause dizziness and depression; in larger doses it can cause nausea, vomiting and death.8

Our experience with the Clearly Filtered pitcher:

Before adding water to your pitcher you have to prepare your new filter. To prepare it you screw the red flushing disk on the filter.

Drop the inner piece inside the pitcher and fill it with tap water. The water will run through the filter into the pitcher where you now have clean filtered water to drink.

The shape of the pitcher allows it to fit nicely in the refrigerator without taking up too much room. This is a problem that I had with another pitcher that I used (and gave away) several years ago. I also noticed that the water filters into the pitcher faster than with my other one.

As with all of their products, the pitcher is made from 100% BPA free, non-leaching Tritan plastic. Just these features alone had me sold!

But how does it taste?

We have very hard water at our house and with the Clearly Filtered pitcher you would never know it! It filters out all of the nasty minerals as well as chlorine and fluoride. None of these are things that you want to be drinking and now you don’t have to! We have filtered water that comes from the dispenser on the outside of our refrigerator but my teenager drinks water from the Clearly Filtered pitcher almost exclusively now. Even my three-year-old always asks for “special water” which means water from the pitcher.

Buy It:

You can buy your own Clearly Filtered pitcher for $69.95. This may sound like a lot, but look how it stacks up against the competition. In the end you are actually spending less per gallon of water than with another brand of filtered water pitcher.

Clearly Filtered also offers filtered water bottles for when you’re on the go. I will definitely be purchasing one of their water bottles for while I’m out hiking or hanging out in the yard with my little one.
