Woolies Dryer Balls Review

I was given a complimentary product to facilitate this review.

Woolies dryer balls are hand-made from 100% Canadian wool and are non toxic and chemical free. They will save you money, energy, and time on your laundry. Woolies come in eco-friendly biodegradable/compostable packaging and all products come with a 1 year warranty.

What are wool dryer balls and what do they do?

  • Using wool dryer balls can cut down the drying time depending on the number of balls you use. 4 balls = about 25% and 6 balls = about 45%. The wool pulls moisture out of your clothes and the balls bounce around, separating your clothes and creating better air flow for faster drying.
  • Wool dryer balls naturally soften your laundry by circulating the laundry so there isn’t a need for chemical fabric softeners
That makes wool dryer balls perfect for drying cloth diapers! Since softeners aren’t recommended, dryer balls are a great alternative to softening your diapers. If you dry your covers in the dryer the dryer balls will help dry them faster, reducing wear and tear from the dryer.

I have three different brands of dryer balls (for a total of 11) and the Woolies are by far my favorite! Here are my Woolies along with two other brands:
Per Woolies website they are felted at least four times so the fibers will not come off on your clothing. To be fair, the other balls have been used for about a year now so it’s natural that they would look a bit ratty in comparison, but the Woolies have been used for over a month and they still look almost new! There is very minor pilling and what pilling there is isn’t from the dryer ball itself. The pills from clothes that attached themselves to the balls where the pills on the other two are from the dryer balls themselves.

As you can see, they are much larger than the others and they are extremely well made. Woolies dryer balls are about the size of a large orange and seem to circulate laundry very well due to their large size. Four Woolies dries my laundry just as well as seven of the other, smaller dryer balls. The only thing that I don’t like about using dryer balls is having to fish them out of sleeves and pant legs but another great thing about their size is that since they are so large it makes it harder for Woolies to “hide” in your clothes.
I love my Woolies and when it comes time to replace my old dryer balls, I will be replacing them with Woolies!

I think I would like the ‘ocean’ scent best. I have been curious about these for a while and whether they truly worked. Nice to know they do! I also love that they sell ‘re-scenting kits as well as one would assume they’d lose their scent after much use. Great idea. Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. Erika E says

I think the Cucumber Melon or Ocean would smell great. I think it’s good that you can buy the re-scenting kits too.

  3. Golden Storm says

i would like to win because i cannot find away to make my towels softer even with fabric softer maybe these will work and i would love the Tahitian Waterfall sceant

  4. JENNIFER HART says

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO TELL ME HOW WELL OR NOT THESE WORK SO THANKS. I REALLY NEED TO CUT DOWN ON MY DRYING TIME AND I DO NOT USE DRYER SHEETS BECAUSE I BREAK OUT IN A RASH. YOU KNOW HOW LAUNDRY IS WHEN YOU DO NOT USE DRYER SHEETS: FLAT, HARD AND STATIC. IT SOUNDS LIKE THESE COULD REALLY SOLVE THESE PROBLEMS!

  5. Sandy says

I would love to win the woolies because they keep my laundry so nice and fluffy and really reduce drying time!

I like that they are felted at least 4 times so that the fibers don’t end up on our clothes!

The dryer balls we are using now will need to be replaced soon. I’ve heard a lot about woolzies and would love to try them!

  7. Danielle says

I would love the wool dryer balls! I have been thinking about making them for over a year, but just hasn’t happened. I love that they cut drying time and soften! I would choose unscented.

  8. Tara C M says

I have been trying a couple other kinds and as you said, some pill up a LOT, and some others are so small they get caught in EVERYthing. We currently have a total of 12, but of those only about 6 are in the dryer at any given time because they are always stuck in the latest load. (and with a newborn and a 2 year old in cloth diapers, I ALWAYS have a load in there or just coming out) Would love to try these for the larger size and lack of pillability (!), although probably unscented, as heavy aromas give me migraines :(

  9. Barnolds says

I’d like to win these because I think saving energy is important. Also, right now I’m using vinegar to Soren my cloth dipes and it doesn’t work very well. I’d love something chemical free that works.

  10. Rachel Wright says

I am very interested in wool dryer balls and I really want to try them, but we are on a rather tight budget so I am really hoping to win some, as they are not cheap.

  11. Allison says

I would love these – I have some that I made myself and they have had a bit of a habit to unravel in the dryer and THAT Is a big old mess!!

  12. Nadene Adams says

I would choose the April Downy Fresh scent. I want to win because anything that speeds up laundry would be great for my house!

  13. Meghan V. says

I didn’t realize that dryer balls came in different sizes. It would seem like these larger Woolies would be better than the smaller ones.

  14. TheMeierFamily says

I’d LOVE to win these – I have always used my own fabric detergent, but I haven’t ventured into the world of drying clothes without dryer sheets – awful, I know, but I’d love the chance to try!

  15. Nola says

I don’t know which set I would choose but I REALLY would love to win some woolies dryer balls. It is getting colder and our electric bill get much higher when the heat needs to be on so anything I can do to reduce the time I am running my dryer is GREAT!

I’ve wondered about the differences between the different brands. It’s nice to know that the felted ones are nicer then the wound ones.

  19. Keara B. says

I’ve been wanting to try wool dryer balls for a long time! I’m trying to be more “green” and find it awesome that these help cut down on drying time. Plus, I hate the idea of plastic dryer balls and the chemicals they probably release. These dryer balls sound like a great product.

  20. Katie Fowler says

I prefer the white woolies & I would want to scent them tahitian waterfall.
These would be a great way to get away from nasty drier sheets, not to mention save a little drying time!

  21. Beth VanBuskirk says

I keep reading blogs about how to make my own wool dryer balls, but I know I will never get around to doing it… but anything that helps with laundry time would be great!

  22. Cathy H says

I would choose unscented dryer balls. I would like to try Woolies – they look so much fluffier than the ones I made myself!

  23. Jonna T says

I’ve tried dryer balls before, but they were homemade and all the “hairs” came out on my son’s CDs (what a pain to pick them off him for awhile… I would love to see how well they work, tho. I love the concept. The sugar cookie scent looks pretty yummy, so long as its safe for CDs.

  24. Becky says

I would love to try woollies because I have stopped using dryer sheets and I am looking for an alternative for scent, plus I hope they will help my laundry dry faster because I often have to run the load through twice!

  25. Ashley Santillanes says

i have been slowly building my wool ball stash, they are pretty pricey. I love wool balls since i dont use fabric softner or dryer sheets these are very helpful. I would love to try the tahition waterfall scent.

  27. Becky Worthman says

how many woolies do you need? 1 pack? more? Will they damage delicate clothing? I guess I am feeling these are “too good to be true” and looking for a downside. Saving time, energy, and money? Sign me up~
