Life gets busy and I may not say it as often as I should, but my husband really is a good guy and this parenting thing would be much more difficult without him. When we met I was a single mother with a six-year-old son and in the nine years that we’ve been together he has treated my son as his own. He has stepped up to the plate and has gone above and beyond the role of stepparent and has truly become the second parent that my son didn’t have. He is involved in school, coached his basketball team, will soon be teaching him how to shave, and is just as much of a father to him as he is to his biological child.
One of their favorite things to do together is to go fishing. When I was thinking of ideas that the boys could give him for Father’s Day I figured a fisherman’s gift basket would be a perfect Father’s Day gift idea.
As a family, we love to go hiking and explore new things. Now that we are living in Colorado everything is new so the places to explore are almost endless. The Husband will put the little one in the baby carrier and off we go to discover new places and things.
Fishing is something that The Husband did with his parents almost from the time he could walk so it’s only natural for him to want to do the same with his own kids. Any time there is the potential for us to be near a lake or river, which seems to be fairly often, The Husband and Red throw their poles in the back of the SUV just in case. Even on my birthday trip to Glenwood Springs two summers ago the boys couldn’t resist the opportunity to throw a line in the Colorado River. They didn’t catch anything, but now they are able to say that they went fishing in the Colorado.
Last summer Dub finally started to become interested in fishing with his father and big brother so this year we will probably get him his own little pole and he can tag along for the bigger trips. It seems to be in his blood!
This basket was so much fun to make and I know that The Husband and the boys will have lots of fun with one of their favorite past times this summer. We went to Walmart to pick out tackle box fillers and goodies:
- an Energizer headlight
- extra fishing line
- pole bells
- a variety of lures and bobbers
- fish attracter
- beef jerky
- a sun hat to put everything in
Not only is the Engergizer Headlight great for early morning or evening fishing, they are great for many other things around the house. Power outages, fixing the car, finding things that were dropped in a small space, and many other little handyman duties. The kids love them, too! Now you can get one for the dad in your life with this coupon for $2-$4 off any Energizer Headlight.
Now that you know what my husband likes to do with our kids for fun, I would love to know what your family’s favorite father/child bonding activities are. How would the dad in your life put the Energizer Headlight to use?
