Being the children’s book fanatic that I am, I want to celebrate by sharing some of our favorite recent finds with you. Some are new titles and some aren’t, but all of them are new to us.
Because it’s never fun to read a book we don’t particularly enjoy, especially over and over (amirite, parents?!), we’ve chosen books that are enjoyable for both parents and kids. So, if you and your youngling are looking for a great new picture book to read, look no further!
Oh, my! This book is so fabulous and funny! Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast are on a mission to get the last drop of maple syrup for themselves. Who wins the race? Do they even get there on time?
You and your little ones will love this book! We did so much that the Easter Bunny left a copy at our house. The sequel, The Case of the Stinky Stench is just as good, so get them both!
Did you ever think you would want to know The Legend of Rock Paper Scissors? If Drew Daywalt, the author of The Day the Crayons Quit, is telling you about it, then you do!
This book is a creative and laugh-out-loud funny take on the “legend” that you won’t want to miss. We can’t wait to add this one to our permanent collection.
Who doesn’t love the Elephant and Piggie books? This dynamic duo is a huge favorite in our house and they are at it again.
Only this time, Piggie has a trumpet!
Does she just want to make music, or is it something a bit more? Find out in Listen to My Trumpet!
This isn’t your typical superhero book. Instead, it is a book filled with beautiful artwork and a fabulous story that your little girl will like just as much as your son.
This was such a welcome surprise and is another title that we’ve since added to our book collection. What is The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man? You and your child will have to read it to find out.
The Amazing Hamweenie isn’t just a cat with a funny name, it’s a fantastic children’s book that cat lovers will want to add to their collection.
If you have a cat in your home, you will definitely appreciate this book. I’m pretty sure that Hamweenie speaks for cats everywhere!
We all have those moments we want to be left alone, right? I know I do!
In this beautifully illustrated book, a grandmother just wants everyone to leave her alone, so she goes off to various places for some peace and quiet.
Unfortunately, wherever she goes, someone or something is there, so she just has to yell, “Leave Me Alone!“. This book was a fun find. I love when we pick up a book based on its cover and the inside delivers as well.
Even Superheroes Have Bad Days
Can you stand another superhero book? Of course, having a house of boys, they are popular here.
Many books about superheroes are pretty similar, but this is another one that stands out from the crowd. We all have bad days, and when you have a little person who is still working on controlling their emotions, this is a great read for them especially. Because Even Superheroes Have Bad Days.
I’m sure you’re probably familiar with Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site by now. If not, it’s a wonderful bedtime story that kids will happily read over and over.
If they have ever wondered what happens when the construction vehicles wake up in the morning, now is their chance to find out. Mighty, Mighty Construction Site is sure to entertain them just as much.
Ninja Red Riding Hood
While looking for books that had strong female characters, we stumbled upon Ninja Red Riding Hood.
We read plenty of books in our house with female lead characters, but this one had something even more special. Ninjas! Who doesn’t love a good ninja story?
This book takes the classic tale of Little Red Riding Hood, adds some nunchucks, and magic is born. The illustrations are wonderful and the story is a great twist on the old classic.
We highly recommend checking out Ninja Red Riding Hood. I think you’ll be glad you did.

These look like some fun books!
